ياO مَنyou who يُضايِقُنيharasses me ويُؤثِرُand favors شِدَّتيmy hardship
يا مَن يُضايِقُني ويُؤثِرُ شِدَّتي
ماnot انتَyou إِلَّاexcept مُرفِدٌa benefactor ومُعينُand a helper
ما انتَ إِلَّا مُرفِدٌ ومُعينُ
O you who harass me and favor my hardship,
O You who troubles me and likes my distress
You are nothing but a benefactor and a helper.
You are but a helper and assistant to me
فالضِيقُfor hardship ليfor me فيin الجُوعhunger قُوتٌsustenance وَهوَand it ليfor me
فالضِيقُ لي في الجُوع قُوتٌ وَهوَ لي
عندَamid التلهُّبblazing heat مَورِدٌa watering place ومَعينُand a flowing spring
عندَ التلهُّب مَورِدٌ ومَعينُ
For hardship is sustenance to me in hunger, and to me it is
Distress in hunger gives me strength and it is to me
amid blazing heat, a watering place and a flowing spring.
A source and assistant in passion's flame
هذاthis زَمانُthe time إِعانتيhelping me ومَكانهاand its place
هذا زَمانُ إِعانتي ومَكانها
انif يَذهَباthey both leave عنيfrom me فليسَthen there is no مُعينُhelper
ان يَذهَبا عني فليسَ مُعينُ
This is the time and place for helping me;
This is the time and place of helping me
If both leave me, there is no helper.
If it goes from me there will be no assistant
