If you wish to build a lofty edifice,
If you wish to build a lofty structure

Its foundation must needs be unshakingly firm,

Indeed, the building is perfection, and its foundation—
For a building is perfection, but its base is

Hang the pearl of piety on a necklace of humility;
String the pearl of piety on the thread of humility,
for no one has ever been found to unfasten it.
For by such a string was it never undone.
