When her Saʿīd ascended Egypt’s throne,
When Sa'id ascended Egypt's throne
Eyes were gladdened by him, and souls rejoiced.
Many hearts found peace, many souls rejoiced
فالخيرُfor goodness مِنfrom أيديthe hands of سعيدٍSaʿīd يُجْتَنَىis reaped
فالخيرُ مِن أيدي سعيدٍ يُجْتَنَى
والحَمدُand praise فيin قلبِthe heart of المؤرِّخِthe historian يُغرَسُis planted
والحَمدُ في قلبِ المؤرِّخِ يُغرَسُ
For goodness is reaped from Saʿīd’s hands,
Goodness flows from the hands of the fortunate Sa'id
And praise is planted in the historian’s heart.
Praise takes root in the historian's heart
