We had hoped to congratulate Niʿma,
We hoped to congratulate a blessing
But behold, congratulations are replaced by condolences.
But instead condolences replaced congratulations
أخلفتَyou disappointed ماwhat نرجوwe hope for وليستْand it is not عادةٌa custom
لبَنِيfor the sons of الجُبيليal-Jubayli أنthat يخيبَbe disappointed مُؤَمِّلُone who hopes
You have disappointed our hopes, yet it is not the custom
You missed what we hoped for and it is not customary
Of al-Jubayli’s sons that one who hopes should be disappointed.
For the sons of Jubayli to disappoint the hopeful
ولقدand indeed تركتَyou left العالمَthe world الفانيperishing لناto us
وطَلَبتَand you sought ماwhat يَبقَىendures وذاكَand that الأجملُmore beautiful
And indeed, you have left the perishing world to us,
And you left this ephemeral world for us
And sought what endures—and that is more beautiful.
And sought what remains, which is more beautiful
فلكَso yours is الهناءُjoy كماas يؤرَّخُis recorded in a chronogram دائمٌlasting
إكليلُthe crown of ربِّكَyour Lord بالسَّعادةِin blessedness أفضَلُbetter
So may your joy endure, as the chronogram declares:
So for you is the eternal bliss as dated
“Your Lord’s crown is greater in blessedness.”
Your Lord's crown of happiness is superior
