ديوانُ عنترةَ العبسيِّ نادرةٌ
فيin كلِّevery عصرٍage يفوقhe surpasses البدْوَthe nomads والحَضَراand the townsfolk
في كلِّ عصرٍ يفوق البدْوَ والحَضَرا
The collected poems of Antarah al-Absi are a rarity;
The Diwan of Antarah ibn Shaddad the Absi is rare
In every age, he surpasses nomads and townsfolk.
In every era it excels the nomads and the settled
إنif لمnot يكنhe is أفرسَmost skilled in horsemanship الفُرسانِthe horsemen عنwith ثِقَةٍcertainty
إن لم يكن أفرسَ الفُرسانِ عن ثِقَةٍ
فإنهthen indeed he دونَwithout شَكٍّdoubt أشعَرُmost accomplished in poetry الشُّعرَاthe poets
فإنه دونَ شَكٍّ أشعَرُ الشُّعرَا
If he is not assuredly the most skilled of horsemen,
If he is not the noblest knight out of certainty
Then he is, without doubt, the most accomplished of poets.
Then without doubt he is the most eloquent poet
