خريدةٌa maiden منamong ذَواتِwomen possessing اللُطفِgrace والخَفَرِand modesty
She gave us the garden's fragrant breaths before dawn—
The garden's morning breezes brought to us
A maiden endowed with grace and modesty.
A gift of gentle, modest messengers
خاضَتْshe traversed إليناto us عُبابَthe surging waters of البحرِthe sea زائرةًas a visitor
فليسَso it is not بِدْعٌa novelty بماin what أَهدَتْshe bestowed منof الدُرَرِpearls
She crossed the sea's surging waters to visit us,
The sea's mist sailed to visit us
So the pearls she bestowed are no cause for wonder.
Bearing gifts of pearls, a welcome visitor

A gift from one generous, it came to us
The right to honor, a binding duty for anyone discerning.
Deserving of honor and esteem from one who values

The master of verse bestowed her upon us, just as
Our Lord of poetry gifted it to us
The clouds bestowed upon us a downpour of rain.
As clouds gift us the rain's downpour

And in his letters, prestige for whoever would boast.
In his epistles, pride for one who boasts

Broad of arm, long of reach, and capable,
Vast of arm, immense of reach, mighty
He has attained its secrets through the bounty of the Almighty.
Attained its mysteries by the Grace of the Almighty

He is like the Nile in abundant flow and breadth,
As if the Nile in flood and ampleness
Yet his watering-place is clear, without murk.
But its course is pure, without turbidity

His reed-pen is keen; its nib embroiders the page,
Quick of gesture, his secretary frees the parchment
Bringing forth ink in a guise more splendid than brocades.
To reveal the ink in its utmost splendor

In his hand, the pens glide across the pages,
Pens glide across the pages in his hand
And deftly unite white blades with brown spears.
Joining with excellence white and black

I found in a sea of knowledge an overflowing deep,
I drew from a sea of knowledge billows that swelled
And was in danger of drowning in it.
Nearly drowning me in their danger

Lofty ships sail through it, bearing us,
The verses plunge in it with us
Made of reason, not of planks and nails.
Not from boards and books but from restraint

Welcome to a radiant visitor who has alighted
Greetings to a radiant visitor who descended
In the heart, raised by it upon couches.
And settled in the heart, raised upon thrones

She revived my wounded heart, and I said to it:
Revived the heart's Moses so I said to him
"Your wish has been granted, O Moses, as ordained."
You have attained your request O Moses, as ordained
