هُوَhe ربُّlord الحِمَىthe sanctuary ونحنand we ضَيوفُguests
One man in the sanctuary, for whom thousands would give their lives.
One whose ransom is paid by thousands
He is the sanctuary’s lord, and we are guests.
He is the lord of valor, and we are his guests

منfrom حَوالَيهِaround him والأمانُand safety رَديفُa rider behind
Wherever he goes, good fortunes are troops
Wherever he went, fortunes were soldiers
around him, and safety rides behind.
Around him, and safety his companion

And when he visits, autumn becomes spring;
When he visited, autumn became spring
and when he is absent, spring becomes autumn.
And when he was absent, spring became autumn

And when he gives, bestowing favors, he is a Nile;
When he was generous, he was the Nile
and when he settles in a place, it becomes fertile countryside.
And wherever he settled was countryside

مِثلماjust as تجمَعُgather الكلامَspeech الحُروفُthe letters
His mind forms judgment from certainty,
His mind gathered opinion with certainty
just as letters form speech.
As letters gather into speech

وكأنَّand as though السُّطورَthe lines فيهاin them سيوفُswords
And it is as though the written sheets from him were armies,
It was as if brigades came from his Turos (poetic book)
and as though the lines upon them were swords.
And as if in it were swords

And it is as though the world before him were a servant boy
It was as if the world for him was a boy
who stood at his door, where standing was sweet.
Who stood at his door, so dwelling was pleasant

And it is as though Time before him
And as if time before him
were a consecrated pilgrim circling the Sacred House.
Was a pilgrim circling the Sacred House

Rightly guided in his pursuit of noble deeds, he is a shepherd;
Diligent in pursuing all that is noble
the wolf and the lamb graze in his care.
The wolf and lamb together would graze

And poems almost hasten to him
And poems would hasten to him
on their own, if only they grew legs.
Wishing they alone were his duty

His bounties are weighty, recounted
With him bounties were weighty, narrated
by the light Khafif meter of my praise of him.
By a sea of gentle praise for him

Those are rain, and that a garden; in their presence
That is a downpour, and this a meadow near it
its blossoms flourish, and fruit clusters draw near.
Whose blooms flourish, and clusters draw near
