إذfor كانَhe was فيin الدُّنياthis world يَرِقُّhe feels compassion ويَرحَمُand he shows mercy
May mercy water the soil of Antoun Tu‘ma,
The rain waters the soil of Anton Tu'mah's grave with mercy
for in this world he was tender-hearted and merciful.
For he was tender and merciful in the world
قدindeed كانَhe was مِنamong أهلِpeople of الكَرامةِnobility والتُّقَىand piety
والبِّرِand righteousness والعِرضِand honor الذيthat لاnot يُثلَمُis marred
He was indeed a man of nobility and piety,
He was of the people of generosity, piety
and righteousness and honor that is never marred.
Righteousness, honor that is never blemished

وَرَعاًdevoutly فحقَّso became due لهُto him النَّعيمُbliss الأعظَمُthe greatest
He spent his life in praiseworthy conduct,
He spent his life in praiseworthy conduct
devoutly; thus the greatest bliss was his due.
Piously, so he deserved the greatest bliss
ومَنِand whoever ابتَداbegan بالخيرِwith goodness مُنذُsince صبائِهِhis youth
فكماthen, just as نؤرِّخُهُwe record his date بخيرٍwith goodness يُختَمُis brought to an end
And whoever began with goodness from his youth
He who begins with good from his youth
will, as we record his date, be brought to a good end.
We will record him with good when his time ends
