عزيزُ بني مُسدِّيَةٍ جميلٌ
يحقُّis fitting لفَقدِهِfor his loss الصَّبرُpatience الجميلُnoble
يحقُّ لفَقدِهِ الصَّبرُ الجميلُ
Jamil is the cherished one of the sons of Musaddiya;
Dear one of mine is beautiful
Noble patience befits his loss.
Patience for his loss is right and beautiful
دعاهُcalled him إليهِto Him خالِقُهُhis Creator فلَّبىso he answered
دعاهُ إليهِ خالِقُهُ فلَّبى
مُطِيعاًobedient حينَwhen ناداهُcalled him الرَّسولُthe messenger
مُطِيعاً حينَ ناداهُ الرَّسولُ
His Creator called him to Himself, and he answered,
His Creator called him and he obeyed
Obedient when the messenger called him.
Obedient when the Messenger called him
بعامٍin a year أنشدَrecited التَّأريخُthe chronogram فيهِin it
بعامٍ أنشدَ التَّأريخُ فيهِ
إلىto باريهِhis Maker قدindeed ذَهَبَdeparted الخليلُthe dear friend
إلى باريهِ قد ذَهَبَ الخليلُ
In a year when the chronogram proclaimed:
In a year, history sang in it
“To his Maker the dear friend has gone.”
To his Creator, the friend has gone
