لقد أبقى نِقولا حينَ وَلَّى

لقد أبقى نِقولا حينَ وَلَّى

لنا أسفاً إلى أسفٍ يُضافُ

لنا أسفاً إلى أسفٍ يُضافُ

Indeed, when Niqola departed, he left

Sorrow for us, added to sorrow.

وأودَعَ في قلوبِ بني زُغَيْبٍ

وأودَعَ في قلوبِ بني زُغَيْبٍ

غُموماً لا يُخالُ لَها انكِشافُ

غُموماً لا يُخالُ لَها انكِشافُ

And lodged in the hearts of the sons of Zughayb

Sorrows for which no relief is imaginable.

ولمَّا حلَّ في فِرْدَوْسِ ربٍّ

ولمَّا حلَّ في فِرْدَوْسِ ربٍّ

وقامَ لهُ بتَسْبِحَةٍ هُتافُ

وقامَ لهُ بتَسْبِحَةٍ هُتافُ

And when he dwelt in the Lord’s paradise,

And a cry of praise arose for him,

جرَى تاريخُهُ حالاً فنادَى

جرَى تاريخُهُ حالاً فنادَى

أنا عِندَ الكريمِ فلا تَخافوا

أنا عِندَ الكريمِ فلا تَخافوا

His chronogram flowed forth at once and proclaimed:

“I am with the Generous One, so do not fear.”
