اقولُI say ليوسُفَto Yusuf المسعودِal-Mas‘ud مَهلاًtake your time
اقولُ ليوسُفَ المسعودِ مَهلاً
فقدfor indeed أسرعتَyou have hastened فيin شَدِّfastening الرِّحالِthe saddles
فقد أسرعتَ في شَدِّ الرِّحالِ
I say to Yusuf al-Mas‘ud: take your time;
I say to my blissful Joseph, wait,
For you have hastened to fasten the saddles.
For you have hurried to break camp.
لئنeven if خَلَتِbecame empty المنازلُthe dwellings منكَof you يوماًone day
لئن خَلَتِ المنازلُ منكَ يوماً
فإنthen indeed القلبَthe heart أرَّخَrecorded the date غيرُnot خالِempty
فإن القلبَ أرَّخَ غيرُ خالِ
Even if the dwellings are empty of you one day,
If the halting-places lack you one day,
Yet the heart—mark the date—is not empty.
Yet this heart has marked others than empty.
