دَعوتُI called upon جِنحَthe onset of الدُّجَىnight's darkness مولايَmy Lord مُبتَهِلاsupplicating
وَهْوَand He المجيبُthe one who answers لمنto whoever نادَىcalled out ومَنand whoever سألاasked
I called upon my Lord at nightfall, in supplication.
I called upon the wings of nightfall, my Master, beseeching,
And He is the one who answers whoever calls and whoever asks.
And He is the Responder to whoever calls and asks.
ياO أرحمَmost merciful الراحمينَthose who show mercy المستغاثُthe one implored for aid بهِfrom Him
عندَduring البلاءِaffliction الذيthat قدindeed ضَيَّقَnarrowed السُّبُلاthe paths
O most merciful of the merciful, whose aid is sought
O Most Merciful of the merciful, the One cried out to
in affliction that has narrowed the paths.
In times of tribulation when paths are straitened.
إنِّيindeed I علىupon جودِكَYour generosity الطَّاميoverflowing اتكَّلتُI relied وهلand does...?

Indeed, I have relied on Your overflowing generosity; and can
I have relied upon Your boundless generosity, for who
a servant who has trusted in Your gracious favors be disappointed?
Has ever been disappointed, relying on Your kindness?

You are the Almighty, whose majesty is feared,
You are the Omnipotent, whose awesomeness is feared,
and earth and heaven tremble before Him in dread.
The earth and heavens tremble in dread of Him.

Who is there who does not fear You, trembling
Who is there that does not fear You, quaking,
with fear, even if his heart were like a mountain?
Even if their heart were to tell the mountains?

And who can unravel matters You have bound?
Who can execute affairs that You have decreed?
And who can turn back a decree from You that has descended?
Who can revoke a judgement You have rendered?

You are the Generous One, from whose abundant grace
You are the Bountiful, from whose grace is hoped
gifts are hoped for—but not from anyone besides You.
Bounty, while from other than You, none is hoped for.
أنتYou الحليمُthe Forbearing One الذيwho يُرجىis hoped for تجاوُزُهُHis pardon

You are the Forbearing One, whose pardon is hoped for
You are the Forbearing, from whom it is hoped
for the ignorance of a servant who has done wrong in word and deed.
To overlook the ignorance of a servant who erred in word and deed.

Whoever seeks to build a palace that endures for him,
Whoever desires to build an everlasting palace,
then let him build with You a palace rising high in heaven.
Let him build in Your presence a palace in the heavens, lofty.

Whoever seeks lasting wealth,
let him seek Your wealth and desire no substitute for it.
Let him seek Your wealth, desiring no substitute.
