Fuad—the heart—has gone, yet his traces have not vanished—

endowed with beauty—nor has his aid ceased.

He left the land like the pen that

left the book, while its ink remained within it.

He departed; the traces of justice are our provisions

from him, and prayers of affection are his provisions.

    لا يَنمَحِي حتى يَذوبَ جمادُهُ

    Lebanon engraved his name upon its rocks;

it will not be erased until its stone melts away.

He cast loneliness upon it, within whose folds

lies a lasting longing that his land laments.

Do not ask about its state after his departure:

what is the state of one whose heart has gone away?
