هذا العُسَيليُّ الذي نَزَلَ الثَّرى

كالغُصنِ من حُمرِ المنايا يُقصَفُ

كالغُصنِ من حُمرِ المنايا يُقصَفُ

This is al-ʿUsayli, who descended into the earth,

snapped like a branch by crimson deaths.

ومُسطِّرُ التأريخِ أنشدَ حَولَهُ

ومُسطِّرُ التأريخِ أنشدَ حَولَهُ

هذا قميصكَ شاهدٌ يا يوسُفُ

هذا قميصكَ شاهدٌ يا يوسُفُ

And the chronogram’s author recited beside him:

“This shirt of yours is a witness, O Yusuf.”
