The radiant moon is not bound to the east;
so he came, already shining before our meeting.

He sought Jillaq for his sojourn; whoever wishes
to count the zodiac's signs must count Jillaq among them.
ياoh طالماhow often كُنَّاwe used to نَراهُwe see him تَوَهُّماًin imagination
حتىuntil رأيناwe saw شخصَهُhis person مُتحقّقِاactually present
Oh, how often we saw him in imagination,
until we saw him in person, in reality.

منfrom بعدِafter ماthat كِدْناwe almost نَذوبُwe melt تَشَوُّقاwith longing
We almost melted in eager contemplation of his majesty,
after we had almost melted with longing.

Seeing him put hearsay to shame, for it was
fuller, though we did not find it truer.

The narrators fell short in describing him, so I excused them,
lest they say, “Describe him yourself, with precision!”

Welcome to the noblest visitor, who has restored to me
my heart, which had been held captive in his keeping.
مَلَكَhe possessed الفُؤادَthe heart يسيرُit marches تحتَbeneath لِوائهِhis banner

He has won my heart; it marches beneath his banner,
so I fear, for that reason, that we may part.
