ناسبتَ بينَ مُحمَّدٍ والمُصطَفَى
Say to the minister, when you stand at his door:
You have fittingly paired Muhammad with al-Mustafa.
أرجعتَyou turned back طرْفكَyour gaze فيamong الرِّجالِmen مكرِّراًrepeatedly
أرجعتَ طرْفكَ في الرِّجالِ مكرِّراً

حتى اصطفيتَ اليومَ أصدَقَ مَنْ وَفَى
You repeatedly turned your gaze among men,
until today you chose the truest of all who kept faith.

وُلِّي على مُلكِ ابنِ داودٍ كَفَى
Indeed, you have chosen a refined man who, were he
set over the kingdom of David’s son, would prove equal to it.

وبرأيهِ عن أن تَسُلَّ الأسيُفا
With his reed pen he spares you the bearing of lances,
and with his counsel, the drawing of swords.

Alert to fortune, he watches what emerges
from it, and nothing concealed escapes his notice.

And when his world complains of a fresh ailment,
then his white right hand guarantees the cure.

cannot be climbed, and whose path cannot be followed,

Accept this letter; I hope it finds
the pardon of the noble, for one like you forgives.

It has gone to congratulate al-Mustafa on an honor,
while I congratulate it on beholding al-Mustafa’s face.
