Michael Nahhas has mourned for
Michael's copper lute lamented over
Anton—but oh, how long his lament!
The prolonged wailing tunes

جَرَحَ الفؤادَ ولا دَوا لجِراحِهِ
Time betrayed him, a boy coming of age;
Fate betrayed him, a blossoming youth
It wounded the heart, and there is no cure for its wounds.
Wounding his heart with incurable wounds

From Michael's embrace he fled, and came to dwell in
From Michael's embrace he fled and spent the night
The heights of bliss, for his surpassing righteousness.
In the bosom of bliss, due to his excessive righteousness

And there Michael, from the peril of fate—
And there Michael protected him from the danger of fate
Record the date—sheltered him beneath the shadow of his wing.
Sheltering him under the shade of his wings
