Glad tidings of good fortune, O Lebanon, glad tidings to you!

Mighty aid from the Creator has taken you in its care.

You have dwelt rejoicing beneath its blessed shade,

So the calamities of time did not beset you.

This is the minister whose office exalted

    Your hills, till they became celestial spheres on earth;

Who reduces the sword in tyrants' hands to a stick,

    And who reduces the brown spear to a tooth-cleaning twig;

And who does good, in secret and in public,

Devoted to goodness and ever shunning evil.

His is the rule in Lebanon, with full authority

In command and prohibition, release and restraint.

Vigilant, he has set right all who were crooked there,

Till you would take the ibexes of the peak for ascetics.

Through him it became a garden whose plantings flourished,

So the desert scarcely put forth thorns.

O master, whose heights outstrip my thought,

And whom I cannot fully encompass in description:

The Lord of the Throne gave you favor among mankind, whereby

We gained the noblest gifts when He gave you to us.

So may you ever remain in our land a rain of justice,

Reviving the country with what your two hands have made flow,

Until the mountains of the earth say in envy:

"Lebanon, if only we were you! How blessed you are!"
