أغابِيُسْ حبرُنا الباني لنا بِيَعاً
مَعَwith المدارسِthe schools تاجُthe crown المجدِof glory كللَّهُcrowned him
مَعَ المدارسِ تاجُ المجدِ كللَّهُ
Agapius, our prelate, who built churches for us,
Agabis, our ink that built for us a homeland
along with schools—the crown of glory has crowned him.
Along with schools, the crown of all glory.
قالتْsaid عبارةُa phrase تأريخٍof a chronogram تَصِحُّholds true بهِof him
قالتْ عبارةُ تأريخٍ تَصِحُّ بهِ
لهُhe has مِثالٌa likeness ولكنْand yet لاno مثيلَequal لهُto him
لهُ مِثالٌ ولكنْ لا مثيلَ لهُ
A chronogram’s phrase, true of him, declared:
The words of history spoke truly of him:
He has a likeness, and yet he has no equal.
