A young man of the Nawfal family, in youth’s tender bloom,
A youth from the family of Nowfal faded like a sword buried in dust
Like a sword, he is now sheathed in dust.
Abdullah, his father, weeps for him as a prisoner weeps for his brother, counting his virtues
يبكيهِweeps for him عبدُAbd (servant of) اللهِAllah (God) والدُهُhis father كماjust as

يبكي السَّليمُ شقيقَهُ ويُعَدِّدُ
His father, Abd Allah, weeps for him, just as
He lived happily and gloriously in this life, praised for his perfection and lauded
Al-Salim weeps for his brother and recounts his virtues.
I inscribed on his lofty tomb “Rejoice! For with your Lord you are most blessed.”

أبشِرْ فإنَّكَ عندَ ربِّكَ أسعَدُ
So I inscribed a chronogram atop his grave:
Rejoice, for you are happier with your Lord.
