منfrom آلِthe family of ساروفيمَSarufim بدرٌa full moon غابَvanished فيinto
من آلِ ساروفيمَ بدرٌ غابَ في
لحدٍa grave لحُكمِby the decree of القادِرِthe Almighty الخَلاّقِthe Creator
لحدٍ لحُكمِ القادِرِ الخَلاّقِ
A full moon from the house of Sarufim vanished into
a grave, by decree of the Almighty Creator.
غصنٌa branch أتاهُcame to him البينُparting فيin شَرْخِthe prime of الصِّباyouth
غصنٌ أتاهُ البينُ في شَرْخِ الصِّبا
بالقَصْفِwith snapping عندَat نضارةِthe freshness of الأوراقِthe leaves
بالقَصْفِ عندَ نضارةِ الأوراقِ
A branch visited by parting in the prime of youth,
snapped while its leaves were fresh.
نادَىhe called أباهُhis father داعياًinviting لجوارِهِto his side
نادَى أباهُ داعياً لجوارِهِ
فأجابهُand he answered him مِنout of كَثْرَةِthe abundance of الأشواقِlonging
فأجابهُ مِن كَثْرَةِ الأشواقِ
He called his father, inviting him to his side,
and he answered him out of overwhelming longing.
وأتاهُand he came to him بالتأريخِwith a chronogram يُنشدُreciting باكياًweeping
وأتاهُ بالتأريخِ يُنشدُ باكياً
يَفنَىperishes الزَّمانُtime وذِكرُand the memory of يوسُفَYusuf باقِremains
يَفنَى الزَّمانُ وذِكرُ يوسُفَ باقِ
And he came to him with a chronogram, reciting through tears:
Time perishes, yet Yusuf’s memory remains.
