Raise upon my grave a statue of stone,
In which the symbol of my life will be displayed after my death:
يَدانِtwo hands بلاwithout جِسمa body تُمَدَّانِare outstretched فيinto الفَضاopen space
تُمَدَّانِare outstretched منfrom صَخرٍa rock علىupon القَبرِthe grave يَربِضُcrouches
Two hands without a body, outstretched into open space,
Outstretched from a rock that crouches on the grave.
فيُمناهُماand the right of the two مَبسوطةٌspread open تشحَدُbegs for الجَداbounty
لتُشبِعُto sate جوعَthe hunger of النفسِthe soul والجوعُyet hunger يَرفضُrefuses
And the right one lies open, begging for bounty
To sate the soul’s hunger, yet hunger refuses.
ويُسراهماand the left of the two فيهاin it فؤادٌa heart مُضرَّجٌbloodstained

And the left one holds a bloodstained heart,
Offering it to the people, but the people turn away.
