للنُّصحِ او تُغضِي

It is all the same whether you listen

To counsel or turn away,

يا نفسُ فالآتي

يا نفسُ فالآتي

مثلُ الذي يَمضي

مثلُ الذي يَمضي

O soul, for what is coming

Is like what passes.

العيشُ اذ يشفي

العيشُ اذ يشفي

كالعيش اذ يُضني

كالعيش اذ يُضني

Life, when it heals,

Is like life when it wearies.

إنَّ الذي يُحيي

إنَّ الذي يُحيي

بعضُ الذي يُفنى

بعضُ الذي يُفنى

Indeed, what gives life

Is part of what is destroyed.

الطهرُ لا يُدني

الطهرُ لا يُدني

والعِهرُ لا يُقصي

والعِهرُ لا يُقصي

Purity does not bring one near,

And debauchery does not cast one away.

فالكأسُ ان تَطفَح

فالكأسُ ان تَطفَح

كالكأس في النَقصِ

كالكأس في النَقصِ

For the cup, if it overflows,

Is like the cup when less than full.

الجَوهرُ السامي

الجَوهرُ السامي

يَبقى بلا رجسِ

يَبقى بلا رجسِ

The noble essence

Remains free of defilement.

كم مُومِسٍ تمضي

كم مُومِسٍ تمضي

عذراءَ للرَّمسِ

عذراءَ للرَّمسِ

Many a prostitute goes

A virgin to the grave.

فافعل كما تهوى

فافعل كما تهوى

يا قلبُ لا تحذَر

يا قلبُ لا تحذَر

So do as you desire,

O heart, do not fear.

إن كنت من تبرٍ

إن كنت من تبرٍ

ما ضرَّك المَصهَر

ما ضرَّك المَصهَر

If you are made of gold,

The furnace cannot harm you.
