Depart from Herat, where there have passed
Distress me not, for months and pilgrims passed
Years and months since you settled there.
In Herat since it housed me as I dwelled

نعم ذو المنثنى ونعم المزور
Depart toward Mismaʿ; you will find him
Distress me not, where hearing you is blessed
An excellent man to return to, and an excellent man to visit.
With bounty, where the folded cloth excelled

In Khurasan, or an emir spurns you.

Nizār placed the bonds of affairs about his neck
To him old Nizam kingdom’s reins furled
Before the noble chiefs—oceans of bounty—perished.
Before the seas could life’s last ships repel

وأجبرand mend العظمthe bone أنهthat it is مكسورbroken
وأجبر العظم أنه مكسور
So take the clan of Bakr under your patronage, O son of Mālik,
So seek, Malik’s son, Bakr’s ancient world
And mend the bone—it is broken.
And make the bone which broken is, to mend well
