لَيسَ في مَنع غَيرِ ذي الحَقِّ بخل
Do not bestow gifts where they are not rightfully due.
You will not find reward in giving unjustly,
Withholding from one with no rightful claim is not stinginess.
There is no virtue in withholding from the deserving.
اِنَّماonly الجودُgenerosity اِنif تَجودُyou give generously عَلىto مَنone who

هُوَ لِلجودِ مِنكَ وَالبَذلُ اِهل
It is generosity only if you give generously to one
True generosity is to give freely to those
Who is worthy of your generosity and giving.
Who deserve your gift and merit favor.

فَذهاب العَزاءِ مِنهُ اِجل
If what has afflicted you is grave,
If what you give is of value to the recipient,
Then the loss of fortitude is graver than that.
Then the loss of it should not grieve you.

All that is to come will surely come; the ignorant one
All that comes will go, without doubt, and the ignorant
Is tormented, and worry and sorrow are needless.
Will know nothing but grief, anxiety and woe.
