مَنwho مُبلِغٌwill convey عَمروَAmr بنَson of هِندٍHind آيَةًa message
مَن مُبلِغٌ عَمروَ بنَ هِندٍ آيَةً
وَمِنَand part of النَصيحَةِsincere counsel كَثرَةُabundance of الإِنذارِwarning
وَمِنَ النَصيحَةِ كَثرَةُ الإِنذارِ
Who will convey a message to Amr son of Hind?
Who will convey to Amr bin Hind an ayah,
And repeated warnings are part of sincere counsel.
And abundant advice is manifold warning,
لاlet not أَعرِفَنَّكَme find you (emphatic) عارِضاًexposing yourself لِرِماحِناto our spears
لا أَعرِفَنَّكَ عارِضاً لِرِماحِنا
فيamid جُفِّthe host of تَغلِبِTaghlib وادِيَthe valley of الإِمرارِal-Imrar
في جُفِّ تَغلِبِ وادِيَ الإِمرارِ
Do not let me find you exposing yourself to our spears
I will not recognize you opposing our spears
Amid Taghlib’s host, in the valley of al-Imrar.
In the dryness of Taghlib and the Imrar valley,
ياO لَهفَgrief of أُمّيmy mother بَعدَafter أَسرَةِthe clan of جَعوَلٍJaʿwal
يا لَهفَ أُمّي بَعدَ أَسرَةِ جَعوَلٍ
أَلّاthat not أُلاقِيَهُمI encounter them وَرَهطَand the kinsmen of عِرارِʿIrar
أَلّا أُلاقِيَهُم وَرَهطَ عِرارِ
Alas for my mother, after Jaʿwal’s clan—
Oh my mother's ardour after the captives of Ja'wal!
That I should not encounter them and ʿIrar’s kinsmen!
If only I would meet them and the kin of Irar!
