مِصَكٌ يُباري الجَونَ جَأبٌ مُعَقرَبُ
As though my saddle-frames and the straps were borne at a run
As though my riding camels and the yearlings
by a powerful wild ass, racing the dark cloud, thickset and curly-maned.
Were struck by a seal stamp competing with ebony, an odoriferous musk;

It grazed the meadows until the pools dried up and
They grazed the meadows until betrayal sprouted
the basins of Sharj and Ayhab grew parched, along with their watercourses.
And twisted with their feet the trailing skirts of a cloak, perfumed and dyed.
