وَما حاوَلتُما بِقِيادِ خَيلٍ

وَما حاوَلتُما بِقِيادِ خَيلٍ

يَصولُ الوَردُ فيها وَالكُمَيتُ

يَصولُ الوَردُ فيها وَالكُمَيتُ

What you two undertook—leading a cavalry,

And what did you two seek by leading a troop of horses,

with red and bay horses charging in its ranks—

Among which the bay and the dark bay charge,

إِلى ذُبيانَ حَتّى صَبَّحَتهُم

إِلى ذُبيانَ حَتّى صَبَّحَتهُم

وَدونَهُمُ الرَبائِعُ وَالخُبَيتُ

وَدونَهُمُ الرَبائِعُ وَالخُبَيتُ

toward Dhubyān, until it fell upon them at dawn,

To Dhubyān, until it raided them at dawn,

though al-Rabāʾiʿ and al-Khubayt lay between.
