1. طيف الحبيب ولهفة المحزون

    إني أحن إليك كل حنين

    The beloved's apparition and the sorrowful one's yearning.

    I yearn for you with all my longing.

  2. تهفو اليك جوانحي وجوارحي

    وتذوب فيك عواطفي وشجوني

    My heart and my limbs flutter toward you.

    And my emotions and sorrows melt in you.

  3. وتهيجني الذكرى فيرقص خاطري

    ويرفّ حولك رفة المجنون

    And memory stirs me, so my mind dances,

    And flutters around you with a madman's flutter.

  4. ويهزني شوقي إليك فانثني

    متلهفاً والدمع ملء عيوني

    And my longing for you shakes me, so I bend,

    Yearning, with tears filling my eyes.

  5. اللَه في العاني يكتّم حبه

    فيثير فيه الحب كل دفين

    God have mercy on the captive who conceals his love,

    So love awakens in him all that lies buried.

  6. طيف الحبيب وانت زهرتي التي

    احيا لها وغلالة النسرين

    Beloved's apparition, you are my flower, for which

    I live, and a veil of wild roses.

  7. يا طير احلامي الجميلَ تهيجه

    ذكرى الحبيب الواله المفتون

    O beautiful bird of my dreams, stirred by

    The memory of the love-distraught, spellbound beloved.

  8. يا شمس آمالي وجنة نشوتي

    ونسيم زفراتي وراح أنيني

    O sun of my hopes and paradise of my rapture,

    And breeze of my sighs and wine of my moaning,

  9. يا وهجة النور السني وهمسة ال

    سر الخفيّ الغامض المكنون

    O glow of radiant light and whisper of the

    Hidden, mysterious, concealed secret.

  10. يا رأد آلامي وبارق لذتي

    يا مرّ أشجاني وعذب شجوني

    O dawn of my pains and lightning-flash of my delight,

    O bitterness of my sorrows and sweetness of my griefs,

  11. يا فيض الهامي وهجسة خاطري

    وعروس أشعاري وسحر فتوني

    O flood of my inspiration and my mind's fleeting thought,

    And bride of my poems and magic of my enchantment,

  12. أنا في هواك اذوب كل هنيهة

    حبا ونار محبتي تصليني

    In my passion for you, I melt every moment,

    With love, while the fire of my love scorches me.

  13. طيف الحبيب انا خيال طائف

    في عالم متلون محنون

    Beloved's apparition, I am a wandering shade

    In a fickle, maddened world.

  14. امضي وفي خلدي شعاع غامض

    متموج في طلسم مكنون

    I go on, with a mysterious ray in my mind,

    Rippling within a hidden talisman.

  15. ويهزني امل جميل باسم

    فاعود منه بصفقة المغبون

    And a beautiful, smiling hope shakes me,

    So I return from it with a cheated man's bargain.

  16. فاروح اندب فيه سيء طالعي

    اسوان ارزح تحت عبء سنيني

    So I go on, bewailing there my ill fortune,

    Sorrowful, I sag beneath the burden of my years.

  17. واذوب في نفسي ويصهرني الاسى

    واغيب عن وعيي غياب جنون

    And I dissolve within myself, and sorrow melts me,

    And I lose awareness in the oblivion of madness.

  18. وأتيه في صحراء روح حائر

    متألم متبرم مسكين

    And I wander lost in the desert of a bewildered soul,

    Suffering, discontented, wretched.

  19. يبغي انطلاقاً وهو قيد جبلة

    مرذولة من طينة الأرضين

    It seeks release, yet is captive to a nature

    Debased, formed from the clay of the earths.

  20. يا بؤسه تسمو به اشواقه

    حيناً ويصعقه الهوى في حين

    Oh, its misery! Its longings lift it up

    At times, and at others passion strikes it down.

  21. فيروح بين صعوده وهبوطه

    وأروح بين تفجعي وانيني

    So it goes between its ascent and its descent,

    And I go between my lamentation and my moans.

  22. حتى إذا ما لحتَ لي في حلة ال

    حسن البهيّ الرائع التكوين

    Until, when you appeared to me in the raiment of the

    Radiant beauty, wondrous in form,

  23. بغضارة القدّ الذي يهتاجني

    ونضارة الوجه الذي يسبيني

    With the freshness of the figure that excites me,

    And the radiance of the face that takes me captive,

  24. وبدوت لي في الليل اهيف لاثماً

    قيثارة الايقاع والتلحين

    And you appeared to me at night, slim-waisted, kissing

    The lyre of rhythm and melody,

  25. تشدو اغاريد السماء فتنتشي ال

    أزهارُ والاطيار فوق غصون

    You sing the songs of heaven, enrapturing the

    Flowers and birds upon the boughs.

  26. وتبادل القبل الفضاء فينثني

    متألقاً بنجومه وعيوني

    And you exchange kisses with the sky, which bends,

    Glittering with its stars and my eyes.

  27. ترنو الى وجهي وثغرك باسمٌ

    وتمسه في رقة وحنين

    You gaze at my face, and your lips are smiling,

    And touch it with tenderness and longing.

  28. والليل يخطر خاشعاً متهيباً

    ويلفنا في هدأة وسكون

    And night walks gracefully, reverent and awed,

    And enfolds us in calm and stillness.

  29. فأذوب في ملأ تباعد افقه

    في الجو في هامات عليين

    So I dissolve in an assembly whose horizon stretches far,

    In the air, upon the summits of Illiyyin.

  30. احييت آمالي وغرد خاطري

    وتساقطت فرحاً عليك شؤوني

    You revived my hopes, and my mind sang,

    And my tears rained upon you with joy.

  31. ونعمت في الاحلام أنشد غايتي

    طيف الحبيب ولذتي وفتوني

    And I found bliss in dreams, seeking my goal:

    The beloved's apparition, my delight and enchantment.

  32. طيف الحبيب يلومني فيك الورى

    ولو انهم عرفوك ما لاموني

    Beloved's apparition, the world reproaches me over you,

    Yet had they known you, they would not have reproached me.
