يا عبقري الألم المذاب

في ذكريات البرح والعذاب

O genius of pain dissolved

In memories of anguish and torment,

لو كنت تدري يا حبيبي ما بي

بي لهفة الحبيب للحبيب

If only you knew, my beloved, what ails me:

Within me is a lover's yearning for the beloved.

أخي مثال الطهر والنقاء

وقاهر الطبيعة الخرساء

My brother, exemplar of purity and spotlessness,

And conqueror of mute nature,

وفانياً في اللَه والسماء

وزاهداً في العالم الرحيب

And absorbed in God and heaven,

And detached from the spacious world.

أخي حبيب الروح والفؤاد

واديك في الحياة غير وادي

My brother, beloved of soul and heart,

Your valley in life is other than mine;

وميسم التقوى عليك بادي

وقسمات الناسك الغريب

And the mark of piety is plain upon you,

And the features of the ascetic stranger.

يا كوثر الشؤون والشجون

وسلسبيل السحر والفتون

O Kawthar of concerns and sorrows,

And Salsabil of magic and allure,

تاللَه لو تعلم ما حنيني

والقلب في الخفوق والوجيب

By God, if only you knew my longing,

While my heart flutters and throbs.

يا زائري في عالم الأحلام

وحاجبي في السقم والآلام

O my visitor in the world of dreams,

And my attendant in sickness and pain,

ومصدر الشعور والالهام

وساعدي في يومي العصيب

And source of feeling and inspiration,

And my supporting arm on my day of hardship.

يا سامي الخلال والخصال

أخوك في دنياه كالخيال

O you of noble traits and qualities,

Your brother in his world is like a phantom,

يذوب في السقام والهزال

كما تذوب الشمس في المغيب

Melting away in sickness and emaciation,

As the sun melts away at sunset.

اخي السجين هذي الحياة

برح وآلام وذكريات

My imprisoned brother, this life

Is anguish and pains and memories;

وهذه الاحياء والأموات

سيان في المجيء والذهوب

And these, the living and the dead,

Are alike in coming and going.

أرنو إلى شخصك لا أراكا

معي فأشتاق إلى مرآكا

I gaze toward your form, but do not see you

With me, so I yearn for the sight of you.

أحن يا صبحي إلى ذكراكا

وقلبي الملتاع في لهيب

I long, O Subhi, for your memory,

And my anguished heart is in flames.

وانتشيك في الرؤى خيالاً

ولا أني أعلل الأمالا

And I grow drunk on you, a phantom in visions,

Nor is it that I am nursing hopes.

يا زهر أحلام المنى تعالا

وناجِ آمالي من قريب

O blossom of the dreams of longing, come,

And whisper to my hopes from close by.

أخي ارى في روحك الجميل

وجسمك المحطم العليل

My brother, I see in your beautiful spirit

And your broken, ailing body

لوناً من السهوم والذعول

وفكرة في عالم الغيوب

A shade of pensiveness and bewilderment,

And a thought in the world of the unseen.

أخي السجين المرتجى سلاماً

يخفّف الالام والاسقاما

My brother, longed-for prisoner, a greeting of peace

That eases pains and sicknesses.

طوباك اذ تعانق الاحلاما

خلواً من الآثام والذنوب

Blessed are you as you embrace dreams,

Free from sins and transgressions.
