يتقاتلfight one another الجيشانthe two armies هذاthis one فائزٌvictorious
يتقاتل الجيشان هذا فائزٌ
فيin كلevery معركةbattle وذاكand that one مهانُhumiliated
في كل معركة وذاك مهانُ
The two armies fight; this one is victorious
The armies clash, one victorious
In every battle, and that one is humiliated.
In every battle, the other disgraced
والحقand the truth انthat كليهماboth of them فيin فوزهits victory
والحق ان كليهما في فوزه
وهوانهand its humiliation عبثfutility هوhe الانسانthe human being
وهوانه عبث هو الانسان
Yet the truth is that both, in their victory
Yet truly both in their triumph
And their humiliation, are folly—such is man.
And dishonor are futile, for man is vain
