مُعاذٌMu‘adh ملاذٌa refuge لزُوّادِهfor those seeking his provisions
ولاand no جارَneighbor أكرَمُmore honored منthan جارِهِhis neighbor
Mu‘adh is a refuge for those seeking his bounty;
Mu'adh is a refuge for his intimates
Mu'adh is a sanctuary for those who seek his bounty,
and no neighbor is more honored than his neighbor.
And no neighbor is more generous than his neighbor
And no neighbor is more honored than the one beside him.
كأنّas though الحطيمَal-Hatim علىat بابهِhis door
وزَمزَمَand Zamzam والبيتَand the House (the Kaaba) فيin دارهِhis dwelling
It is as though al-Hatim were at his door,
As if firewood were at his door
It is as though the sacred Hatim stood at his gate,
and Zamzam and the Sacred House were in his dwelling.
And Zamzam and home were in his abode
And the well of Zamzam and the Holy House within his dwelling.
وكمand many a منof حريقِone aflame أتىcame مرَّةًonce
فلَمyet did not يعمَلِhave an effect الماءُthe water فيon نارِهِhis fire
And many a man aflame has come once,
And how many fires came once
How often has a burning blaze approached him,
yet water had no effect on his fire.
But the water did not work against its flames
Yet water remained powerless against his fire.
