ألا لا خلْقَ أشجع من حسينٍ

ألا لا خلْقَ أشجع من حسينٍ

وأطعن بالقنا منه النحورا

وأطعن بالقنا منه النحورا

Behold, no creature is braver than Husayn,

None braver than Hussein there is,

Truly, no creature is braver than Husayn,

Nor pierces throats with spears more than he.

And none who spears the necks like his,

Nor more fierce at thrusting lances into the throat;

يفرّ عن الرماح إذا التقينا

يفرّ عن الرماح إذا التقينا

ويبلعها إذا كانت أيورا

ويبلعها إذا كانت أيورا

He flees from spears when we meet,

From spears he turns when we collide,

He flees from the spears when we meet in the fray,

And swallows them when they are cocks.

Yet gulps them down when by his side.

But swallows them whole if they happen to be cocks.
