وتَركتُand I left off مدحيmy praise للوَصيّfor the designated successor تعمُّداًdeliberately
وتَركتُ مدحي للوَصيّ تعمُّداً
إذfor كانَhe was نوراًa light مستطيلاًfar-reaching شامِلاall-encompassing
إذ كانَ نوراً مستطيلاً شامِلا
And I deliberately left off my praise of the designated successor,
I left off praising the guardian deliberately
I have purposely abandoned my praise of the Successor,
for he was a far-reaching, all-encompassing light.
When he was encompassing light, rectangular
For he is a towering light, vast and all-embracing.
وإذاand when استقَلَّis self-sufficient الشيءُthe thing قامstands بذاتهِon its own
وإذا استقَلَّ الشيءُ قام بذاتهِ
وكذاand likewise ضياءُradiance الشمسِthe sun يذهبُgoes باطِلاin vain
وكذا ضياءُ الشمسِ يذهبُ باطِلا
And when a thing is self-sufficient, it stands on its own.
And if a thing stands alone, it stands by itself
When a thing is complete in itself, it stands by its own essence,
And likewise, the sun's radiance goes to waste.
Just as the sun's light goes, nullifying the void
Just as the sun's radiance renders all description vain.
