قَدindeed أُبتُI returned بِالحاجَةِwith the request مَقضِيَّةًfulfilled
قَد أُبتُ بِالحاجَةِ مَقضِيَّةً
وَعِفتُand I disliked فيin الجَلسَةِthe sitting تَطويلَهاprolonging it
وَعِفتُ في الجَلسَةِ تَطويلَها
Indeed, I have returned with my request fulfilled.
My need fulfilled is destiny's decree
I have returned, my need fully resolved,
And I was loath to prolong the sitting.
And I, to sit long, patiently agree
And shunned the prolongation of my stay.
أَنتَyou الَّذيthe one who طولُlength بَقاءٍlife لَهُfor him
أَنتَ الَّذي طولُ بَقاءٍ لَهُ
خَيرٌbetter لِنَفسيfor my soul مِنthan بَقائيmy continued life لَهاfor it
خَيرٌ لِنَفسي مِن بَقائي لَها
You are the one whose long life
You, whose long life is good fortune for me
You are the one whose long and lasting life
Is better for my soul than my own life is for it.
Better than I should in that fortune be
Is better for my soul than my own survival.
