أبعينِ مفتقرٍ إليكَ نظرَتَني

أبعينِ مفتقرٍ إليكَ نظرَتَني

فأهنَتني وقذَفتني من حالِقِ

فأهنَتني وقذَفتني من حالِقِ

Did you regard me as one in need of you,

With yearning eyes I looked to you,

Did you view me with the eye of one in need of you,

and so humiliate me and hurl me from a lofty height?

So you despised me and cast me down.

Then humiliate me and cast me from a precipice?

لستَ الملومَ أنا الملومُ لأنّني

لستَ الملومَ أنا الملومُ لأنّني

أنزَلتُ آمالي بغير الخالق

أنزَلتُ آمالي بغير الخالق

You are not to blame; I am to blame, because

It is not you I blame, but I myself,

You are not the one to blame; I am the one to blame, for I

I placed my hopes in someone other than the Creator.

For I placed all my hopes in one unworthy.

Entrusted my hopes to other than the Creator.
