Does Ibrahim's family, after Muhammad, have

anything but ceaseless yearning and sighs?

No one acquainted with their condition after him has doubted

that consolation is forbidden to them.

Tears make their cheeks bleed, and pass away

the hours of their night, though they are ages.

They are cousins; every sin a man commits

is forgiven, except tale-bearing between them.

The tale-bearers flew over the purity of their love,

just as flies fly over food.

    جودي بِها لِعَدُوِّهِ تَبذيرُ

    And I have indeed bestowed love on Abu al-Husayn;

for me to lavish it on his enemy would be wasteful.

A king who took shape as he wished, as though

destiny proceeds according to his decisive decree.
