زَعَمتَ أَنَّكَ تَنفي الظَنَّ عَن أَدَبي

زَعَمتَ أَنَّكَ تَنفي الظَنَّ عَن أَدَبي

وَأَنتَ أَعظَمُ أَهلِ العَصرِ مِقدارا

وَأَنتَ أَعظَمُ أَهلِ العَصرِ مِقدارا

You claimed that you dispel doubt about my literary skill,

You claimed that you deny any suspicion about my manners,

You claimed to banish suspicion from my art,

And you are the greatest of your age in stature.

Yet you are the most esteemed person of this time.

You, who are the greatest of the age in rank.

إِنّي أَنا الذَهَبُ المَعروفُ مَخبَرُهُ

إِنّي أَنا الذَهَبُ المَعروفُ مَخبَرُهُ

يَزيدُ في السَبكِ لِلدينارِ دينارا

يَزيدُ في السَبكِ لِلدينارِ دينارا

Indeed, I am the gold whose true quality is known;

I am the well-known gold, whose source is known,

I am that gold whose assay is well known,

When smelted, it adds a dinar to every dinar.

That adds value to the dinar upon minting.

That increases, in the casting, dinar upon dinar.
