فارَقتُكُمI parted from you فَإِذاand behold ماwhat كانَwas عِندَكُمُwith you
فارَقتُكُم فَإِذا ما كانَ عِندَكُمُ
قَبلَbefore الفِراقِthe parting أَذىًharm بَعدَafter الفِراقِthe parting يَدُa favor
قَبلَ الفِراقِ أَذىً بَعدَ الفِراقِ يَدُ
I parted from you; and behold, what I had from you—
I left you, so if it was
I parted from you, and lo, what I endured with you—
Harm before parting—is a favor after parting.
Before parting, harm, after parting a hand
A harm before the parting, is after parting a grace.
إِذاwhen تَذَكَّرتُI recall ماwhat بَينيbetween me وَبَينَكُمُand between you
إِذا تَذَكَّرتُ ما بَيني وَبَينَكُمُ
أَعانَhelps قَلبيmy heart عَلىagainst الشَوقِthe longing الَّذيthat أَجِدُI feel
أَعانَ قَلبي عَلى الشَوقِ الَّذي أَجِدُ
When I recall what passed between me and you,
When I remember what is between me and you
Whenever I recall the bond betwixt us two,
It helps my heart withstand the longing I feel.
My heart helps with the longing I find
It aids my heart to bear the yearning that I find.
