Wipe away the tears, and do not pity the plight—

the plight of anyone among masters or dependents.

    أصبح المجد بها ليس يبالي

    We are all of the same clay;

glory no longer cares about it.

    And we boarded unruly ships

that veered away from every harbor of greatness.

So misery became one of us, until it had

a paternal uncle and a maternal uncle among the sons of Ya'rub.

He forged wandering verses, and through their magic they sprang forth

    ***

to conquer hearts with tenderness and beauty.

    ***

Time told me that my ambitions

    were heavier than it.

So I began to rebuke it,

so it would bring me another time

    ***

    that could carry my ambitions.

And I have never fallen into the well of extremism.

nor does disgrace ever descend into its courtyards.
