The wolf suckles at the breast of the burrows.

And in the forest's expanse a flock of wind plays...

The noble man will not stretch out the palm of whiteness

to those who lashed him with sharp tongues of lead.

    For even the palm trees

    still lean toward his side,

and so do the eyelashes of the clouds...

So why do the tents suffer the melancholy of the caravan driver

in the wastes, when his camel-driving chant has fled him,

and the night journey went on, heedless of dawn's dimness...

The one seeking refuge in it did not come to the village.

No custom has taken root there for those seeking refuge in it for protection.

So those who sought refuge in it—

there, the land of exile does not welcome them...

So pride belongs only to the one who set fire

to injustice, wrapped in the robe of dignity.

From his hand a miracle will shine forth,

    growing wet with dawn,

wiping the tears of the eyes that have so often run

    after the light of morning.
