My dwelling has borne me far away, yet I am near

In my heart, my feelings, and my thoughts.

I see myself dwelling in every land

Where there are Arabs whose blood flows in me.

Pride in them was the very essence of my nature,

Just as the letter ḍād was my pride in speech.

And if they have now fallen back, then I

See them, despite this, as people of worth.

Soon they will rise to eminence,

With resolve in which their goal lies, and with patience.

Listen, you who gloat over them: wait!

For glory still flows through them.

When they awaken, they will become kings,

And become those empowered to forbid—indeed, to command as well.
