    لولا التعقّل لَاحْتسى كأسَ الردى

    Many a young man has had his cares settle heavily upon him;

    but for good sense, he would have drunk the cup of death.

    To every son of woman, good fortune will come.

    Patience, my brother, for it will come today or tomorrow.

  3. ...

    ...

    Who can find me a close friend in whom I see myself,

    and who will be my shield in times of calamity?

    I pass my mornings and evenings in the shade of his loyalty,

    ...

    and see him as my sun in the darkness of misfortunes.

    ...

    أسير به إلى الغد في أناةِ

    And I have a hope whose face is radiant;

    I walk with it toward tomorrow, unhurriedly.

    Its birds pour forth song within my sanctuary

    that binds up my bleeding wounds.
