ليخفي الجمال فلم يخفه
In his delicacy, he veiled himself with roses,
To hide his beauty, yet he did not hide it.

وراقبني مقبلاً فاختفى
فنمّthen tattled عليهon him شذاthe sweet scent عرفهof his fragrance
فنمّ عليه شذا عرفه
And he watched me approaching, then hid;
But the waft of his fragrance gave him away.

وحيّا فأحيا قتيل الأسى

وفزت بقبضي على كفه
And he greeted me, reviving one slain by sorrow,
And I triumphed in clasping his hand.

And he filled love’s cup to the brim, and it was passed round
By the dark-eyed enchantments in his gaze.

And he swayed, his waist slenderly formed,
Too delicate and fine for words to describe.
