يسوم منا العداة ودّاً

يسوم منا العداة ودّاً

والمكر في ودّهم كمين

The foes demand affection from us,

Our foes seek affection from us,

while guile lurks within their love.

while deceit lurks within their affection.

فلا تصدق لهم بودّ

كُلٌ عدوّ لنا مبين

كُلٌ عدوّ لنا مبين

So do not believe their professions of affection:

So do not offer them sincere affection:

every enemy of ours stands revealed.

each is an unmistakable enemy to us.

وكيف نرعى ذمام قوم

وكيف نرعى ذمام قوم

ليس لهم في الزمام دين

ليس لهم في الزمام دين

How, then, could we honor a people’s pledge of protection

And how can we honor the covenant of a people

when they recognize no sacred law in pledged honor?

who keep no faith with the reins?
