1. بين آس وأقاح

    وصبوح في صباح

    Amid myrtle and daisies,

    And a morning draught in the morning,

  2. روّح الروح براح

    واغتنم صفو الزمان

    Refresh the soul with wine,

    And seize time's serenity.

  3. خندريس من رحيق

    قرقفاً تدعى بريق

    A vintage wine of pure nectar,

    A heady wine called saliva,

  4. في كؤوس من عقيق

    عصرت من أقحوان

    In goblets of agate,

    Pressed from daisies.

  5. في رياض الجلنار

    بين ورد وبهار

    In gardens of pomegranate blossom,

    Among roses and narcissi,

  6. لذّ لي لثم العقار

    من ثنيات الحسان

    Sweet to me was kissing the wine

    From the beauties' front teeth.

  7. فاعذروني يا عذولي

    ودعوا قول الفضول

    So pardon me, O my reproacher,

    And abandon meddlesome talk.

  8. إن سقمي ونحولي

    في الهوى كل الأَماني

    Indeed, my sickness and wasting

    In love are all I wish for.

  9. ودعوني وبكائي

    من بخيل بالوفاء

    And leave me to my weeping

    Over one miserly with faithfulness.

  10. قدر الله شقائي

    في هواه وهواني

    God decreed my misery

    In loving him, and my humiliation.

  11. ملك الروح ومالي

    طرفه لما ومالي

    My soul and my wealth were seized

    By his glance, when it beckoned to me.

  12. ودعا قلبي ومالي

    لا ألبي من دعاني

    It called my heart—and why should I

    Not answer the one who called me?

  13. لسعتي يوم الفراق

    صعبت عن الف راق

    The sting I suffered on the day of parting

    Proved beyond a thousand healers.

  14. فأدر ذكر التلاقي

    واسقني راح الأغاني

    So pass round the remembrance of reunion,

    And give me the wine of songs to drink.

  15. يا ليالي الأنس عودي

    بمليح وبعود

    O nights of companionship, return

    With a fair one and an oud.

  16. واهزمي جند الصدود

    وانظمي عقد التهاني

    And rout the army of rejection,

    And string the necklace of felicitations.
