إذا لم تطق ذل الهوى وهوانه

إذا لم تطق ذل الهوى وهوانه

فدع عنك أمراً لا يقوم به الصبر

فدع عنك أمراً لا يقوم به الصبر

If you cannot bear love’s humiliation and its abasement,

If you cannot bear love's humiliation and disgrace

then set aside a matter that patience cannot withstand.

Then abandon something that patience cannot endure

وسل أن يعافيك الله الإله من الهوى

وسل أن يعافيك الله الإله من الهوى

إذا شئت عيشاً لا ينغِّصه الهجر

إذا شئت عيشاً لا ينغِّصه الهجر

And ask that God, the Deity, spare you from love,

And pray to God Almighty to cure you of passion

if you desire a life that estrangement does not embitter.

If you wish for a life not embittered by separation
