1. إن كنت حرّمت الكلا

    م فلا أقل من السلام

    If you have forbidden speech,

    then at least grant a greeting.

  2. وإذا رغبت عن اللقا

    ء فقد لقيتك في المنام

    And if you turn away from meeting,

    then I have indeed met you in a dream.

  3. وكأنني أشكو لطي

    فك جور حكمك في الغرام

    And it was as though I complained to your apparition

    of the injustice of your judgment in love.

  4. فرثى وأقسم أنه

    سيعود موصول السقام

    It took pity and swore that it

    would visit the ever-ailing one.

  5. فاسمح وبر يمين طي

    فك يقظة وارحم هيامي

    So be gracious and fulfill your apparition's oath

    in waking life, and have mercy on my lovesick longing.
