قسماًI swear بحرمتكby your sanctity التيwhich لاnot تنهكis violated
وبليلand by the night of عينيكyour two eyes الذيwhich لاnot يدركis fathomed
I swear by your sanctity, which cannot be violated,
I swear by your sanctity that cannot be violated,
And by the night of your eyes, which cannot be fathomed:
And by the night of your eyes that cannot be reached,
إنيindeed I علىdespite ضحكthe laughter of المشيبgray hair بمفرقيat the parting of my hair
وتضاحكand the laughter of السنواتthe years منيat me أضحكI laugh
I, despite gray hair's laughter at the parting of my hair,
That though old age makes my temples laugh,
And the years' laughter at me, laugh.
And the years mock me, I laugh more than they.
ماذاwhat عليupon me منfrom الأماثلthe notables قولهمtheir saying
إنيthat I علىbefore ملأa gathering بهمamong them أتصعلكI play the vagabond
What do I care for the notables' saying
What care I for the similes of the rabble?
That I openly play the vagabond among them?
Lo! In their estimation I am formidable.
