The generous man arrived from his journey,
The favored Mufaddal returns from his journey
His claws sunk into his triumph.
With claws sunk into his prey
آبreturned والأقبالand good fortune يقدمهgoes before him
آب والأقبال يقدمه
والعلىand glory تشتدhastens فيin إثرهhis wake
والعلى تشتد في إثره
He returned, with good fortune going before him,
August and auspicious is his arrival
And glory hastening in his wake.
And glory grows in his wake
حازwon مجداًglory صارbecame ميسمهits mark
حاز مجداً صار ميسمه
منamong حجولanklets الدهرTime بلrather غررهits forehead blazes
من حجول الدهر بل غرره
He won glory whose mark became
He has won glory, it became his mark
One of Time’s anklets—nay, one of its forehead blazes.
Among the young stars, nay the brightest of them
منصبan office لاno دخلflaw فيهin it سوىexcept
منصب لا دخل فيه سوى
انهthat it ينحطfalls عنbelow قدرهhis worth
انه ينحط عن قدره
An office without a flaw, except
In a position none can enter
That it falls below his worth.
But to fall short of his merit
كلevery ثوبrobe أنتyou لابسهwearing it
كل ثوب أنت لابسه
يستحيكis ashamed before you الدهرTime منof قصرهits shortness
يستحيك الدهر من قصره
Every robe you wear—
Every garment you wear
Time is ashamed before you of its shortness.
Shames the age by its splendor
نسبlineage ماnot مسهtouched it أشبadmixture
نسب ما مسه أشب
قدتwere cut الأصباحthe dawns منfrom طررهits fringes
قدت الأصباح من طرره
A lineage untouched by admixture:
A lineage pure as dawn's first light
Dawns were cut from its fringes.
Whose morning glows from his brilliance
وكمالand perfection رفshimmered رونقهits luster
وكمال رف رونقه
كرفيفlike the shimmering الروضthe garden عنfrom مطرهits rain
كرفيف الروض عن مطره
And perfection whose luster shimmered
With perfection and grace in full bloom
Like a garden shimmering after its rain.
Like the garden after the rain
دمتmay you remain ملحوظاًwatched over وبوركand may blessing be bestowed فيupon
دمت ملحوظاً وبورك في
وردentry ماwhatever تأتيyou undertake وفيand upon صدرهits departure
ورد ما تأتي وفي صدره
May you remain watched over, and may blessings attend
May you remain distinguished and blessed
Your entry into whatever you undertake, and your departure from it,
The blossoms you bring and in your breast
غارساًa planter للودof affection ملتقطاgathering
غارساً للود ملتقطا
مستطابsweet الحمدpraise منfrom ثمرهits fruit
مستطاب الحمد من ثمره
As you plant affection and gather
Planting affection, gathering
Sweet praise from its fruit.
Praise made sweet by its fruit.
